Mortimer Country Consortium
The Mortimer Country Consortium (MCC) was founded and constituted in 2000 as a self-sustaining community tourism marketing network group with the aim that community tourism can make a significant and direct contribution to both community and working life and the economy of the area.
Geographically located on the borders of the Shropshire Hills AONB and the Radnor Hills of Powys the particular strengths of Mortimer Country are the very strong cultural and historic heritage, leisure, natural and built environment links that create a robust ‘sense of place’ unique to the locality. There was and still continue to be opportunities to positively build on these links.
A reflection on the quality of product and service offered by individual members are local, regional and national awards received by their business.
The objectives of the MCC are to:
» Develop sustainable tourism and holidays in the area designated by MCC by such means as advertising, promotion and contact with the wider industry.
» Support and enhance the local economy.
» Maintain and encourage the improvement of the standard of accommodation and other tourism facilities in the area.
» Protect and further the interests of members of MCC by contacts with Visit Herefordshire, South Shropshire Tourism Association, local authorities and other bodies and by other means.
» Provide a customer referral system between members.
Members pay an annual membership and for advertising in the brochure and website. Current marketing is through the annual brochure ‘Explore Mortimer Country’ and the website
