You will have the chance to lean how to holistically manage a woodland to maximise diversity as well as to take a sustainable crop of timber.

On this Green Wood Taster Course you will be able to spend a couple of hours in our woodlands, finding out about the way we manage it to provide green wood for our courses and timber for our workshop. You will learn about the different trees in the woodlands, and learn how to use a billhook safely, to cut some hazel and ash wood for your project.

Then we will take the green wood to our workshop (or if the weather is warm and sunny, take the workshop to the wood) and you will be able to have a go at shaping your wood using an axe and a draw knife.

By the end of the day, you will have learned how to make a round tenon and mortice joint, learned how to assemble the joints, and you will have created your very own green wood stool to take home with you.

The course runs from 9.30am to 4.30pm, and includes a delicious home cooked lunch, eaten together, in the middle of the day. There is a maximum of two learners per course to ensure safety and provide individual tuition.
