Details
Welcome to Burton Court, a typical squire’s house built around the surprising survival of a 14th Century Great Hall. The east front was re-designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis in 1912.
Mentioned as hugely enjoyable in Simon Jenkins’s award-winning book ‘England’s Thousand Best Houses’, Burton Court is a family run enterprise that offers a truly unique location for a wedding, a private or corporate party, a conference, a product launch or film work.
The Simpson family have been conducting guided tours around their home since the 1960s. The newest addition to the tour these days includes the large archaeological dig. This has provided considerable interest, as we believe we have the remains of a Norman Castle inside the grounds. The discoveries on the mound have reshaped the tours that are conducted in the house as the finds tie in with the various occupants that have lived at Burton Court over the centuries.
The tour will be conducted by the owners and include all the main rooms on the ground floor; the 900 years of history of the Court; the gardens and the archaeological mound. In addition, we can arrange tea and coffee and cream scone teas in the Butler’s Bar or or more elaborate dining for larger numbers in the main reception rooms. in the garden room and gardens during the summer months
Pre-booked tours are available all year round. We are situated in the heart of the Black and White Village Trail, a delightful local tourist attraction.
The minimum number of guests for a guided tour is 12, and will need booking in advance.
