Details
When looking for beautiful scenery and delightful black and white villages you simply cannot beat Leominster Country. Famed for its timber-framed architecture, this northern area of Herefordshire has much to offer, including two exceptional National Trust properties, several outstanding gardens, stately homes, farm attractions, golfing, horseriding and other activities.
Start your visit in Leominster, the historic market town at the heart of the Black and White Village Trail.
Leominster has more than its fair share of interesting buildings, including the recently restored Grange Court, built by King’s carpenter John Abel in 1633. Behind it sits the town’s oldest surviving building, the majestic Priory Church with its monastic records dating from the 7th century. Many of the buildings reflect the town’s rich heritage, which can be better explored in the Museum, situated in Etnam Street. The town is known for its friendly independent shops including the best selection of antiques shops in the Marches.
Visit the bustling weekly market or sample the local produce available at the monthly farmers’ market before enjoying a coffee at one of the many cafés.
North Herefordshire is a restful place, with quiet roads and rolling hills that are easy on the eye. These provide a wonderful landscape, ideal for artists, walkers and cyclists. To make the most of your visit why not stay in one of the distinctive and comfortable self-catering cottages or B&Bs which provide the best of local foods. The famous Hereford beef is complemented by tasty local fruit and vegetables. These should be followed by the cheeses that are made at the local dairy, alongside a glass or two from the wide range of beers, ciders and wines produced nearby.
Let your visit begin at Leominster Tourist Information Centre, situated in the heart of Corn Square. Our staff will be happy to assist in making your stay a happy one. We sell range of guide books, maps, souvenirs, local produce and crafts, and we can book local events, theatres and day trips.
We are grateful to Leominster Town Council for funding the Tourist Information Centre for the next three years.
