Concert - Britten Oboe Quartet - Hellens Manor

Hellens, Much Marcle

Hellens, in collaboration with Espressivo Concerts, is delighted to have engaged the wonderful Britten Oboe Quartet to give a concert in Hellens Great Barn.

The combination of the oboe with a string trio was a creation of Mozart’s genius. Nicholas Daniel (oboe) founded the Britten Oboe Quartet with co-principals of the award-winning Britten Sinfonia; they all bring to this ensemble not only the highest musical standards but also the experience of playing together over many years. resulting in warm, expressive and above all enjoyable playing.

Nicholas Daniel OBE, has long been acknowledged as one of the world’s great woodwind players. He is joined by three distinguished string players, Jacqueline Shave (violin), Clare Finnimore (viola) and Caroline Dearnley (cello). Nicholas came to the public’s attention when, in 1980, he won the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. He was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List last year for his services to music. The programme is still evolving but is likely to include the Mozart Oboe Quartet in F K370, an arrangement of a string quartet by Mozart or Schubert and, possibly, the Cor Anglais Quartet by Jean Françaix.

‘… performances throughout are simply beyond reproach in their keenly communicative instinct, deft aplomb and infectious dedication.’ Classical Ear
