“Possibly the most ambitious private garden of our time…one of the most successful public gardens in Great Britain.” Stephanie Donaldson, Country Living, Gardens Editor
Hampton Gardens (previously Hampton Court Castle Gardens) is nestled in the Herefordshire countryside. A perfect day out for all ages, it features a range of highly-acclaimed gardens including numerous herbaceous borders, pleached avenues, kitchen gardens, island pavilions, canals and a 150-year old wisteria tunnel leading to expansive sweeping lawns and a fabulous castle play area.
Special events such as falconry and jousting often take place here throughout the summer and there is a beautifully illustrated sculpture and wildlife trail available throughout the season. There is also the opportunity to have a garden tour with the Head Gardener to learn about the history of the gardens and the wide range of plants.
Visitors delight at the 1000-yew maze, with a gothic tower at its centre it offers panoramic views of the gardens and even includes a secret tunnel! The River Walk is home to some of the estate's oldest trees and has varying lengths along the River Lugg. Dogs are permitted on leads so this is a great option if you have brought them along for the day!
Have lunch or light snacks in the unique Orangery Cafe, designed by Joseph Paxton with expansive views of the Herefordshire countryside. There are also ice creams available for hot summer days.
