5 Day Wild Family Itinerary

Hidden in the hills of Herefordshire, you’ll find heaps of high energy outdoor activities to set pulses racing and fill lungs with fresh air.

Speed round a racetrack in a super-fast kart, swing through the trees on high ropes, whizz around the woods on a quad bike, channel your inner Viking, or end 18 holes of mini golf with some crowd pleasing comfort food. This jam packed five day family adventure will leave little time for screens and these real life activities are surprisingly affordable or don’t cost a penny. Additional walks and fresh air are free and unlimited!

Day 1

Teens (14+) can turn up the tempo with an hour of axe throwing at The Viking Games in the Golden Valley. Or, younger families can enjoy an hour of strategic Nordic games like Molkky, Kubb, Bullrings or Stige. Eek out the adventure over a whole morning with a great value family package which includes sessions of laser clay shooting, archery and Nordic games.

Then spend a calm afternoon enjoying world class art for free at the remarkable Canwood Gallery, a gallery and sculpture park showcasing world-renowned and local artists all in a beautiful and tranquil countryside setting.

Day 2

Hit the high ropes and hear dad squeal as he zooms down the zip line through the trees at Oaker Wood. There are further bookable family adventures priced from paint-balling and quad trekking to a shipping container escape room to clay pigeon shooting.

Slow things down with afternoon tea at the Ralph Court Gardens restaurant and then explore the 15 themed gardens (Italian, African, Dinosaurs, Monet, Alice in Wonderland) set in the grounds of a gothic rectory.

Day 3

This is a great day for boundless energy release when rain might make the outdoors less appealing. Green Spider indoor climbing offers family taster sessions for an hour which will introduce your gang to bouldering and roped climbing.

f there’s still enough energy for bouncing off the walls then just down the road there’s Flip Out, a huge inflatable arena packed with 14 activities from racing across the Wipeout Zone to taking a leap of faith in Free Fall.

Day 4

Ready for some sport? Herefordshire is home to one of the country’s most highly rated karting circuits where kids (aged 8 and over) get to test their driving skills at the thrilling Herefordshire Raceway just outside Weobley. Zoom around the challenging 600m circuit in an awesome twin engine kart, this is a great activity for adults too. Junior Karting sessions can be booked for 30 minute slots or hone your mini Hamilton with Junior Karting School, over 3 days from £120 per junior (8-16 years).

To wind down post racing head to Grove Golf and Bowl and choose from indoor ten pin bowling, the golf simulator or 18 holes of mini golf and round off a sporty day and dine at the onsite restaurant. Still not done?

Then book a game of padel at Hereford Squash Tennis and Racketball Centre and expect to sleep very well!

Day 5

A gentle day to enjoy small pleasures and minimal adrenaline with animal encounters at Small Breeds Centre where the pygmy goats, alpacas and owlets provide maximum cuteness.

Then head into Hereford for museums and to step back in time, first the Waterworks Museum for a picnic by the river and to learn the story of drinking water from early times to the present day then stroll into the city to the Old House, a beautifully preserved 17th-century timber-framed house in the heart of Hereford.

In the evening check out The Courtyard, a community arts centre and cinema which is very much in the present day and where you can catch a show, exhibition or even a favourite tribute band!
