Leominster Plaques Trail
Leominster’s Unofficial Blue Plaque Trail
History-ish. Definitely Leominster.
Welcome to Leominster, pronounced “Lemster”, just to get that out of the way.
Around our handsome Herefordshire market town, a collection of rather unusual purple plaques have appeared. Unlike their more serious cousins, these don’t commemorate kings, politicians or celebrated historical figures.
Instead, they honour the things that really deserve remembering: cups of tea, questionable weather, tractors, Herefordshire cider and local hearsay.
Can you find them all?
There are 15 unofficial plaques waiting to be discovered around Leominster town centre.
Some contain a grain of truth. Some are inspired by rural Herefordshire life. Others are completely, unapologetically ridiculous.
Follow the trail, explore the streets, stop for a browse, have something to eat, investigate somewhere you might otherwise have walked past and keep your eyes peeled for the next purple plaque.
There’s no need to rush. In fact, that rather defeats the point.
A little local knowledge
Leominster has been welcoming people for centuries, although visitors have been mispronouncing its name for almost as long.
Its streets are full of independent shops, cafés, antiques, historic buildings and all the character you’d expect from a Herefordshire market town.
The Unofficial Blue Plaque Trail celebrates that character, with considerably less concern for historical significance.
One important warning
Not everything written on these plaques should be taken as historical fact.
