An impressive castle on the outside but a warm and intimate home on the inside, there’s plenty to see and do when you visit Croft. Visitors are welcome to come and take a seat in the Saloon to relax and soak up the atmosphere. The record player’s on, sit back and listen to music of an era once gone as you admire the family portraits on the wall, the Croft family have been associated with this special place since 1086.

Whatever the weather, a visit to the impressive three-acre walled garden is a must. The garden is lovingly cared for by a team of two gardeners and their dedicated volunteers. Here you can also find the smallest vineyard cared for by the Trust, a limited amount of white wine is made from the grapes every year and sold from Visitor Reception.

Surrounded by medieval parkland landscape, Croft contains a unique triple avenue of Sweet Chestnuts and an international important collection of veteran trees, including the 'Quarry Oak' which is over one thousand years old. A walk up Croft Ambrey, an iron aged hill fort, will lead you past the impressive 'Candelabra Oak'  at nine hundred years old this ancient tree looks stunning in May, when surrounded by wild bluebells.

If you’re planning a visit, make sure to bring your walking boots to explore two new walks through Fishpool Valley; the Highwood Walk and the Fishpool Dingle Walk.

Bircher Common is located the other side of Croft Ambrey, it can be accessed following the sign post around five hundred yards past the entrance to Croft Castle. The common offers great panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, stretching as far as the Welsh Mountains.
