The Radnor Lily

This exhibition is a celebration and exploration of the Radnor Lily. The only time and place this flower can be found in Britain is during midwinter, when it very rarely emerges from the thin soil on the steep igneous face of Stanner Rocks. Drawing upon these unique characteristics, the artists consider the Radnor Lily as more than a tiny, shy flower. Through their works, we are offered glimpses into the imagined inner life of the lily: reflections on its fragile existence, as well as an understanding of it as a courageous symbol of strength, tenacity and patience.

Bringing together painting, sculpture, poetry and performance, the artists here approach the lily as both a botanical specimen and a witness to deep time and cultural change. Across the exhibition, the Radnor Lily is repeatedly transformed, sculpted, fragmented and reimagined through contemporary art practices and inherited craft traditions, where intimate gestures unfold alongside monumental forms.
