Sunday 16th August at 11am Anglo-Saxon Hereford For 650 years after the Romans left Britain it was the Anglo Saxons who ruled much of the land. In the Kingdom of Mercia the small settlement of Hereford grew to become a key defensive outpost in the borderlands between England and Wales. Today the city is one of only five cities in England to be designated an Area of Archaeological Importance (AAI). This walk will explore why by identifying some of the still visible traces of Anglo Saxon Hereford, and the histories they reveal of early Medieval Hereford Starts from Cathedral, West Front. 90 mins approx.
