St Michael and All Angels is a Grade I listed Norman Church built in circa 1130 on the site of Moccas Abbey (destroyed by Saxons around 600 CE), founded by St Dubricius or Dyfrig, who was born in 580AD.

The church is included in Simon Jenkins’ book ‘1000 Best Churches’ and has been in continuous use since it was built.

The effigy of a knight  in the centre of the chancel, who died in 1375, is believed to be a member of the de Fresne family.

At the western end is the wonderfully decorated organ of the highest quality, constructed by R W Walker in 1871 on the instructions of the then Rector, the Rev Sir George Cornewall of Moccas Court. The casing was designed by George Gilbert Scott Junior and  painted by Thomas Kempe. The organ and its casing has recently been restored by Nicholson & Co. and IFACS with the generous support of HLF and many private donors and charities.

There is also a recently restored Bailey hydraulic engine, which can be used to power the organ which is believed to be one of only three remaining in the country.

But our church is far more than just a historic building and well known landmark in the village. It’s a place where we gather with our families and friends to share in key life events – christenings, weddings and funerals – as well as for regular Sunday worship, Easter, Harvest and Christmas.
