Common Senses Exhibition
From 1st May until 31st May
About This Event
Canwood Gallery presents Common Senses, a group exhibition by a collective of highly accomplished fine artists, opening in May 2026. The exhibition brings together confident, thoughtful practices shaped by close observation and critical reflection, responding to natural, social, and political environments that are increasingly under pressure. The artists first met while studying at Hereford College of Arts and have since developed distinctive and assured practices. While varied in approach, the works share a strong attentiveness to material, process, and context. Spanning a range of mediums, the exhibition presents a rich and considered dialogue between different forms of making. Common Senses examines how meaning is formed through perception, process, and experience, from the ways media shapes reality to more tactile responses to landscape, material, and touch. Painting, sculpture, ceramics, textile, and photographic processes are used to question how images are constructed, how materials carry memory, and how humans relate to both natural and mediated environments. Working intuitively and materially, the artists engage with gesture, walking, making, and sensory awareness, drawing on sources that range from mass media imagery and geology to local ecologies and sustainable craft. Together, their practices reveal interconnected ways of understanding the world through observation, physical interaction, and the transformation of materials into forms that invite reflection, proximity, and attention. Throughout the exhibition, artists will be present at weekends to speak informally about their work and practice. A programme of artist talks will also take place, offering further insight into the ideas and processes behind the exhibition.
