Hereford History Day 2026

  • 16th May
Hereford

About This Event

Hereford History Day marks the midway point of the Festival and opens at 10AM in St Peter’s Church and Hereford Town Hall on St Peter's Square, Hereford, on Saturday, May 16. And it’s all FREE, even the refreshments!

Featuring:

Herefordshire’s Secret Army, and What Really Went on at Hiring Fairs? - just two of our specialist free talks, hosted by the City Library in the Town Hall. And for any wannabe historian speakers, we’re also giving them the chance to share their stories in our Twenty-Minute Talk Spot in St Peter’s side Chapel.

The History Supermarket promises to be bigger than ever, thanks to our new accessible venue at St Peter’s Church in St Peter’s Square. With displays ranging from the Hereford Hoard, the city canal, and engineering wonders from the Waterworks Museum, to a unique stand dedicated to members of the county’s Women’s Land Army. (Did your grandma serve with the WLA? Come along and find out!)

Herefordshire Lore’s pioneering Young Historian Award goes county-wide, thanks to its new partner, Herefordshire Libraries and the Herefordshire Histories Festival. Details online. at www.eventbrite.co.uk/herefordshire-young-historian-award 2026

Watch out for the majestic Civic Parade . . . and expect some musical surprises during a free day devoted to Herefordshire Histories!

Organised by Herefordshire Lore, the county organisation, which has been researching and publishing living local histories since 1989.
