Potters Wheel Course
- 10th October
About This Event
Your own potter’s wheel and an inexhaustible amount of clay to play with. We’ll have you throwing respectable shapes by lunchtime – guaranteed. On Arrival You are guaranteed a warm welcome from your hosts, celebrated studio potters Sarah Monk and Jon Williams. Professional Demo After introductions and refreshments, you’ll settle down to watch a detailed and entertaining potter’s wheel demonstration. Then it’s aprons on and time to ‘saddle up’! Throw Down Time We have developed five simple steps to making a pot on the potter’s wheel and for the first two or three attempts, we move through the stages altogether as a group. By the third go, participants have got the hang of things and are encouraged to develop at their own pace with individual tutoring as and when. In the afternoon we scale up, make bigger pots and try different shapes. Finishing Up After the wheels have been cleaned it’s decision time! You’ll have made loads and loads of pots, far more than you’ll ever need. We ask you to select your favourite one or two to keep as a memento. They will be left with us to be fired, glazed and posted out to you at no extra cost. If you can’t make up your mind what to keep, extra pots can be purchased on the day for an additional fee. Your glazed gems will arrive at home approx. six weeks later.
