The trend for last minute bookings means that there are still some gorgeous options in Herefordshire for those who have left it until now to book a staycation for this August.

City Stays

For families, we heartily recommend the terrific summer package at The Green Dragon Hotel where the under-12s can stay and eat for free from now until 5 September. Situated in the heart of Hereford, only moments from the beautiful cathedral, the hotel is a great base for exploring. There's plenty to occupy the kids, all within a 30 minute drive: build dens, get lost in the woods, climb mountains, go paint-balling, look after lamas, roam the ruins of castles, and search for ancient medieval maps.

Riverside Retreats

Canoeing and paddleboarding are favourite activities in Herefordshire, especially in the south of the county. There's also plenty of fantastic walks, dramatic viewing points and the chance to spot local wildlife, including the resident peregrine falcons

There's currently rooms available at The Saracens Head Inn and Ye Old Ferrie Inn which are both cosy pubs set on the river bank or try The Old Court Inn which is only a five-minute stroll from the Wye.

Off-grid Adventures

If you're hearing the call of the wild, then Herefordshire is the place to run free. Cwtch Cabins near Ledbury has availability, both in its quirky cabins and on the campsite. It's a lovely spot to ‘get away from it all’ with a historic house, local cider makers and pubs all within a leg stretch walk (about a mile).

Another fantastic option is Ryeford Ponds which offers fully set up bell tents, shepherd’s hut and pitches, sited amongst meadows, ponds and woodland.  Enjoy the freedom and space, sit by the campfire, relax in a hammock or reconnect with the surrounding nature.
