Art and Craft Workshops - The Creative Granary
About This Event
Saturday Morning - Dyeing Fabric with Plants You will learn how to mordant fabric then gather dye plants from Mary's garden, or choose from those that have been previously dried or ground, and process these for dyeing muslin. The fabric has been pre-mordanted as this cannot be done on the same day as the dyeing. To achieve the best results cellulose fibres require approximately 24 hours to dye.
Saturday Morning/Afternoon - Carving Designs for Relief Printing Mary will provide you with a selection of designs from which you will choose three to carve.
Sunday - Flora Printing and Relief Printing You will remove the fabric from the dye and put it to dry before you will be able to relief print this with the three designs you chose to carve on Saturday. Once printed the fabric will then be put to dry once more.
Whilst the fabric is drying you will undertake Flora Printing. You will collect vegetation from the surrounding gardens and then dissect this before reconstructing into a picture and printing onto pre-prepared viscose fabric. The fabric has been prepared with a binder, as this needs to be light fast, which can take several weeks to complete.
Once the dyed printed muslin has been dried, you will then seal your designs.
At the end of the workshop you will take home your Plant Dyed Printed Scarf and a Flora Printed Picture, which can be framed or used as a wall hanging.
