Rowden Abbey Country House

Bromyard
Set within 30 acres of peaceful parkland near Bromyard, Rowden Abbey is a grand yet welcoming Arts & Crafts country house offering exclusive stays, weddings, and curated experiences in the heart of Herefordshire.
Built in 1881, the Abbey is a living piece of heritage — a working estate whose rooms echo the lives of its past owners: the Bailey family of Hereford cattle fame, the Tarretts of Berrington, and later the spirited Chapman Circus dynasty. Every corner reflects its story, from William Morris wallpapers and carved oak panelling to stained glass that catches the countryside light.
Today, Rowden Abbey opens its doors for those seeking a slower, richer way to stay. The house sleeps up to 22 guests across 11 bedrooms and is available as exclusive hire or through its two self-contained wings — the North Wing (six bedrooms, 13 guests) and the South Wing (five bedrooms, nine guests). Guests can also enjoy boutique B&B accommodation, offering a slice of the full Abbey experience with breakfast served in the historic dining room.
Rowden hosts only five exclusive weddings each year, each entirely bespoke. Couples may marry within the Abbey’s half-panelled dining room, on the terrace by the croquet lawn, or beside the medieval lake, with the option of a ceremony at nearby 12th-century St Peter’s Church.
Across the seasons, the estate welcomes workshops, retreats, and experiences celebrating craftsmanship, food, and wellbeing — from autumn clay shoots and fireside dining to summer theatre, heritage tours, and garden suppers.
