Hereford Military History Festival: The Changing Face of Warfare with Antony Beevor & Arthur Denaro
About This Event
The number one bestselling historian in Britain Antony Beevor who profiles his latest book The Second World War is joined by Major General Arthur Denaro, who spent 40 years as a British soldier, commanded his Regiment in the war to liberate Kuwait and was Chief of Staff of some 44,000 multinational troops during the Balkans conflict. They explore the evolution of warfare, from conventional battles to modern conflict. Today, warfare is developing rapidly through new technology such as drones and guided missiles, which can launch extremely focused attacks and minimise casualties. At sea, sophisticated submarines and aircraft carriers have replaced the more traditional warships, as the need for naval battles has reduced. The battle against future enemies is likely to be targeted more and more at finding and eliminating terrorist threats, a far cry from the hand-to-hand combat of earlier centuries. Antony and Arthur are in conversation with Lucy Easthope.
