The Bayeux Tapestry Comes to Storridge
- 22nd September
About This Event
As the Bayeux Tapestry returns to Britain for the first time in almost 1,000 years, join local art historian Zaza Shelley for a richly illustrated talk celebrating this extraordinary moment in British cultural history.
Following the opening of the landmark Bayeux Tapestry exhibition at the British Museum on 10 September 2026, this is a wonderful opportunity to discover the remarkable story behind one of the world's greatest medieval treasures. Measuring almost 70 metres in length, the tapestry vividly tells the story of the Norman Conquest of 1066 through an extraordinary sequence of embroidered scenes that continue to captivate historians and visitors alike.
During the evening, Zaza will bring the tapestry to life, exploring its history, craftsmanship and symbolism, introducing the fascinating characters it portrays, and revealing the mysteries and unanswered questions that have intrigued scholars for centuries. Whether you are passionate about history, fascinated by medieval art, or simply curious to learn more about this iconic masterpiece, you are sure to enjoy an entertaining and informative evening.
The talk will take place at Storridge Village Hall (WR13 5EY) on Tuesday 22 September at 7.30 pm.
