Ben Okri Waking the Warriors | Hereford Military History Festival
- 26th September
About This Event
Booker Prize Winner Sir Ben Okri and Monocle Radio’s Georgina Godwin celebrate Ben’s New novel Waking the Warriors. This new novel is inspired by old legends and symbols from many cultures, forging a myth drawn from the marrow of our troubled times. The story is set in a dystopian world of invading armies, terrified refugees and powerful tyrants - uncomfortably familiar to our own. Ben Okri & Georgina Godwin will talk about how war has shaped or influenced literature, how literature has shaped our perception of war they will explore what it means for a writer to work in times of crisis. They will reflect on the place of mythology in war and the place of imagination in helping to bring about a lasting peace.
This event is part of the Hereford Military History Festival, 25-27 September 2026. Why not make a weekend of it? Read more here.
