Canwood Gallery Sculpture Park
From 1st May until 20th September
About This Event
Canwood Gallery is a contemporary sculpture park and gallery set within 10 acres of outstanding natural beauty, nestled deep in the Herefordshire countryside. Its story begins in the 1970s, when Herefordshire farmer Stephen Dale faced a life-threatening battle with leukaemia. During treatment at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, he found solace and inspiration in the Tate Gallery, particularly in Carl Andre’s controversial brick installation. It wasn’t just the work itself, but the questions it raised, what is art, who decides, and why it matters. That moment stayed with him. Years later, on retirement, Stephen founded Canwood Gallery, creating a place where art could be shared, experienced, and explored by others, freely and without barrier. Today, sculpture defines the experience. Works unfold across the landscape, from striking large-scale pieces that command space to smaller works that invite closer connection. All works are for sale, offering the opportunity to live with something that truly resonates. There is no set route, and no rush. Walk at your own pace. Pause. Look again. And above all, listen. Here, there is no noise, only birdsong, wind through the trees, and the quiet presence of art in the ancient landscape. Inside, the gallery presents a rolling programme of exhibitions alongside a carefully curated permanent collection. An on-site café and picnics to order allow you to pause, stay longer, and fully experience the setting.
