Cardiff Winds and Naomi Harvey (soprano) - Lion Ballroom - Leominster
About This Event
At 3pm on Sunday 20 October, Cardiff Winds, who have played at the Lion Ballroom a number of times, return to perform lovely wind music and are joined by distinguished soprano Naomi Harvey in a chamber version of Richard Strauss' glorious Four Last Songs. The ensemble consists of flute, clarinet, oboe, horn and bassoon. On the programme are two popular works from the Wind Quintet repertoire, one by Farkas and one by Nielsen; an arrangement of a famous composition by George Butterworth; and a short work by composer and arranger Derek Smith: a potpourri of French tunes. The main work, however, will be the première of a chamber version of Richard Strauss’ much-loved Four Last Songs. This normally requires a huge orchestra but in this chamber version it acquires an intimate feel.
