The Laefer Quartet present a varied and diverse programme exploring the saxophone quartet from the earliest piece written for the quartet formation by Belgian composer Singelée, right up to the present day with South African composer Clare Loveday. The American composer David Maslanka was heavily influenced by J.S. Bach and this is evident in his beautiful and exhilarating Recitation Book.
Known for their ‘mercurially brilliant playing’, and putting a fresh twist on classical repertoire, the quartet will also explore transcriptions of works by Stravinsky and Nyman which are brought to life by the vibrant and engaging colours of the saxophone quartet.
