About This Event

When Nicholas Soames was five, he walked into the bedroom of his grandfather, Sir Winston Churchill who was sitting up in bed reading the newspapers, and asked him "Is it true, grandpapa, that you are the greatest man in the world?". "Yes, I am," said Churchill. "Now bugger off". Born in 1948, Lord Soames of Fletching is one of the wittiest and most engaging speakers of his generation, with a treasure-trove of stories and anecdotes drawn from his remarkable life as a soldier, as a politician and as a central figure in what used to be called Society. During dinner at the Green Dragon, he will reflect on a lifetime close to the heart of world events and share his unique perspective on the world as he sees it today. He is the Chairman of the Hereford Military History Festival.

This event is part of the Hereford Military History Festival, 25-27 September 2026. Why not make a weekend of it? Read more here.
