About This Event

This Eve Summer Walk takes place in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside;close to the England–Wales border. Starting and finishing in the small hamlet of Hardwicke, we follow a circular route of approximately 3–4 miles, walked at a steady, relaxed pace ;with time to pause and enjoy the scenery.

From the hamlet we gradually climb through a lovely area of woodland, emerging onto a small, open moorland plateau on top of Little Mountain. This quiet, elevated spot feels wonderfully peaceful, and we may encounter ponies grazing nearby. There’s also a small nature pool and a striking natural rock escarpment, around three metres high, which provides a perfect place to sit, rest and take in the views. From here, the panorama is superb. To the west and north rise the beginnings of the Black Mountains, including Hay Bluff & Lord Hereford’s Knob, while to the east the landscape opens out towards the beautiful and historic Golden Valley & an area renowned for having one of the highest concentrations of castle sites in Europe. It’s a wonderful place to linger, especially in the warm glow of evening light.

After time to enjoy the views, we return gently downhill, passing once again through woodland and open fields as we make our way back to Hardwicke. The walk lasts around 2 hours, is led by a professional walk leader, and is suitable for most people who enjoy walking at a comfortable pace.
