Hellensmusic Festival 2026

About This Event

A composer’s late period can take on many forms. For the French Gabriel Fauré, maturity arrived with old age, as his retirement from the Paris Conservatoire, poor health and deafness forced him to battle against fatigue and search for new musical resources. In turn, for the Austrian Franz Schubert, the end came rather early, just as the 31 year-old composer was at his most prolific and inspired stage. Moving from Fauré’s Piano Trio in D Minor (1923) to Schubert’s last Piano Sonata (1828), this concert will navigate between two closing gestures, aiming to reveal the vitality – the forcefulness, the sense of timelessness and expansion – that both composers, young and old, are able to convey in their late instrumental pieces.

Bruno Delepelaire (cello), Matthew Hunt (clarinet), Christian Blackshaw (piano), and Hellensmusic Masterclass Students.
