About This Event

Join the members of Regia Anglorum for an authentic Anglo-Saxon Compline (Night Prayer) at 8.30pm Saturday 30th May. The group, which has a passion for detail, will sing and say Latin and Anglo-Saxon prayers by candlelight inside Leominster Priory as they would have been done centuries ago. The structure of the compline service is derived from historical sources, and includes - Te lucis ante terminum: A common medieval hymn, sometimes sung in Latin for evening prayers, with themes about protecting against "foul dreams and fantasies". - Vernacular Prayers in early English and Latin including personal prayers for protection while sleeping. - "I sleep, but my heart wakes": A popular theme in medieval devotional writing based on the Song of Songs, used in night prayers.

This event is part of the Vikings at the Priory programme which runs from 27 May to 22 June. Visit: www.prioryarts.org.uk
