Vikings at the Priory: Viking Ship Burial
- 30th May
About This Event
In the iconic Norman Nave of Leominster Priory witness a re-enactment of a ship burial for a fallen Viking. The authentic burial rituals, including the placement of weapons, shields, and personal grave goods, will be explained as the demonstration takes place.
The re-enactment is presented by members of Regia Anglorum who are camped at the Grange for the weekend in a Viking village.
Much of the history of the early mediaeval era is written in blood. From Viking raids to clashes of kings, with generational grudges and pursuits for wealth and glory, bloody conflicts between armies and nations stretched across the era. Viking warriors sought “word fame” and were buried with great care with intricate rituals.
This event is part of the Vikings at the Priory programme which runs from 27 May to 22 June. Visit: www.prioryarts.org.uk
