About This Event
Introducing Saturday Spotlight Talks – a series of engaging, concise sessions exploring fascinating topics from history, culture, and beyond. Perfect for curious minds, each talk offers the chance to discover something new in a welcoming, relaxed setting.
In this edition, Senior Archivist Rhys Griffith takes us into the world of Regency Hereford, covering the years 1795–1837. Often remembered as a period of elegance and refinement, the Regency era was also a time of major social and political change.
Rhys will explore what life was like in Hereford during this dynamic period, from national events such as the Slave Trade Act (1807) and the Slavery Abolition Act (1833) to local developments like the demolition of Butchers Row in High Town. Drawing on local records and historical sources, this illustrated talk will bring the era vividly to life.
