Tours of Snodhill Castle during Hay Festival fortnight - Dorstone
- 25th May 2024
About This Event
Featured in January's Digging for Britain, Snodhill Castle is emerging from centuries of neglect as one of the earliest and most unusual Norman marcher castles. Here's a rare chance to explore the ten acre site in its commanding Golden Valley setting in the company of an expert guide. You'll discover its many oddities and unique features. Hear the story of its ongoing rescue and restoration - including the latest archaeological discoveries. And learn about its unique Royal Free Chapel, and our plans for its future. Your guides are Garry Crook, castles expert and Chair of the Snodhill Castle Preservation Trust (Sat May 25th); Tim Hoverd, Archaeological Projects Manager, Herefordshire Council ( Tues May 28th), and Bill Klemperer, former Principal Inspector of Ancient Monuments, Historic England (Thursday May 30). Places are limited and should be booked in advance. Dogs on leads are welcome.
Please note these tours take place at 2pm and are separate from the tours being organised by the Hay Festival.
